Meeting times: various

The aim of this group is to provide an opportunity to enjoy Jazz and Blues live performances - affordably, locally and in the company of other members. We aim to learn more about the different genres of this type of music. We choose venues in Croydon or nearby like Streatham or Warlingham with sufficient seating to ensure comfort during a show.

The shows we attend range from Swing and Big Band to Dixieland and Blues Jazz. Many people are not quite sure about enjoying Jazz. However, if you follow this link to YouTube you will get a taste of the types of music we tend to seek out.

To ensure enjoyment, we select performers who play what we think is popular. We try to avoid artists that focus on Free Form or Improvised Jazz which some may find rather highbrow.

The group has been active for a number of years. We usually recommend one show per month via email circular with a sample video of the show proposed, the venue and the price (usually £15 or less). Those wishing to attend are asked to respond by email. We then book the tickets and arrange to meet up at a convenient location (usually close to the venue itself). We generally have time to chat before the show and in the interval to share ideas about the performance. We usually get a good turnout and always have an enjoyable time.
