Singing for Pleasure

When: 2nd & 4th Wednesday mornings, 10.30am
Where: St Matthews Church
There is only space now for three gentlemen to join our Singing for Pleasure Group. The vestry in which we meet at St Matthews in central Croydon does not have the capacity to take many more people. If you are interested in joining us in the New Year then please contact Hazel on 07794 681244 and she will put your name down on the recently formed waiting list.
SINGING – IT’S CHEAPER THAN THERAPY!
We sing arrangements of folk songs , old favourites and some lesser known ones, American Spirituals, popular melodies and show songs by people like Frank Sinatra and other entertainers. You don’t have to read music, just enjoy singing in a mixed group – we have enough members with a good understanding to help carry you along.
We sing in three parts, the ladies singing the upper two lines of music and the gentlemen singing the lower one. The lower voices often carry the melody, while the others harmonise in two parts, sometimes three, which is very satisfying.
We normally begin with breathing and vocal exercises, which are very beneficial for both body and mind. Then we sing through some of the songs we have in our repertoire – so that they are not forgotten – and then tackle something new.
Email the Group co-ordinator for more details.
