October News from the Chair

I am pleased to report to you that our 39th AGM was a very successful event. We now have 2 new Committee members – Angie Stagg & Anne Tanner who will be responsible for welcoming and supporting prospective and new members. This autumn they will have hosted four coffee mornings assisted by Steve May and Peggy Green. These events are much appreciated by the invitees.
Maggie Chan has handed over the Interest Group Co-ordinator role to Trisha Holmes, who inherits the much-developed part of our membership offer. Many thanks Maggie for your commitment. It is with great relief that Maqgie agreed to stay on the Committee, and she will now devote her energies to publicity and community outreach.
Member Phil Barber gave us an excellent account of sailing around Croatia with the u3a Sailing Network – stunning photos and explanations. Don’t let anyone say we are not up for challenges and living the best life!
We finished the meeting with a contribution from the Sing-a-Long group with a rousing audience joining in Bring Me Sunshine and YMCA!
I had previously referred to two Outreach Projects – collecting items to create Christmas packs for Croydon residents who are living in hard times through Croydon Crisis. We can receive more items at the November Monthly Meeting on 12th November. I invited members to make a voluntary donation to Bromley & Croydon Women’s Aid, which will be doubled through the Big Give initiative. The retiring collection raised a staggering £204, that’s £408 which I will transfer.
Two Committee members from Newham u3a joined us and told me afterwards that they were very impressed by our friendly approach and that they were taking away lots of ideas.
Many thanks to those of you who were unable to attend and sent us words of support – they mean a lot.
Very best wishes,
Jenny
